Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Preview

Following an eight-hole playoff victory for Harris English at the Travelers Championship, the PGA Tour makes its way to Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. This will be the third edition of the event, with Nate Lashley winning the inaugural event and Bryson DeChambeau winning last year. Detroit Golf Club is an old-style golf course designed by Donald Ross. The other Donald Ross course on the Tour is Sedgefield. Ross commonly uses greens that slope from back-to-front.

Detroit Golf Club is a Par 72 that is only 7,340 yards. Golfers will me tempted to bomb their way around this course. The generous ryegrass fairways allow golfers to frequently pull out their driver. The course is not very long, and with most golfers choosing to hit driver the Approach shots on this course are much shorter than the Tour average. Proximity from 75-100 yards, and 100-125 yards will be more important this week than almost any other week. The greens are relatively easy to hit and scrambling is not difficult here. All of these signs point to a putting contest. With only two years of course data to use, there is not an overwhelming number of key stats that directly stick out.

Similarities between Nate Lashley’s and Bryson DeChambeau’s wins are pretty thin. Lashley gained less than a stroke Off-the-Tee whereas Bryson gained 6.6 strokes in that category. Lashley gained 5.5 strokes on Approach and Bryson only managed to gain .48 strokes on Approach. Both players gained at least 7.5 strokes Putting which shows that having a putting ceiling is vital this week. Bad putters can still contend if they are volatile and capable of getting hot with the flatstick, but if a player has shown a very low ceiling for putting, I will not consider them for this event. Bryson and Lashley both ranked 4th in Tee-to-Green in their winning weeks. This will be an absolute birdie-fest with both winners scoring into the low-to-mid 20s. Lashely made 28 total birdies and only 3 bogeys while Bryson made 28 birdies, 1 eagle, and 6 bogeys. Scoring is key, especially on the Par 4s. Lashley and Bryson combined to score on 38.75% of the Par 4s that they faced, and scored on astounding 65.63% of the Par 5s that they faced.

In a week like this, the elite golfers lose their advantage because every golfer is capable of winning. Young players coming off the Korn Ferry Tour might have extra appeal this week as they are used to going low in order to contend. The cutline that past two years has been -4 so golfers need to get off to a fast start and keep their foot on the gas. This week is a sprint, so I am mostly looking for high upside players. Players who are capable of getting to -20 under is the first thing I am considering. Players who are in good form, or trending in the right direction will be my targets. To be completely blunt, I do not think this is a great week to deep dive numbers and over-analyze the event.

Key Stats: Tee-to-Green, Short Proximities (75-100, 100-125), Putting Upside, Off-the-Tee, and GIRs Gained

Scoring Upside: Par 4 Scoring Average, Birdies-or-Better Percentage, Bogey Avoidance, Par 5 Birdies-or-Better Percentage

Rocket Mortgage Classic Tips

Webb Simpson 19-1

Webb Simpson has not played too much golf this season, but when he has played, he has produced. In 15 total events this season, Webb has finished inside the Top 10 five times. Webb knows that not every course will fit his skillset so when he is playing it’s because he knows he has a chance to win. Webb Simpson’s best course every year is Sedgefield, which is also a Donald Ross design and in his only appearance at this event Webb finished T8. Webb Simpson is a proven winner who plays well at these types of events.

The 35-year-old has been a scoring machine this season, ranking inside the Top 12 in Par 3, Par 4, and Par 5 Scoring Averages. Webb is surprisingly very efficient on Par 5s and so with four Par 5s this week he should see plenty of birdie opportunities. Over his last 24 rounds, in this field Webb ranks:16th in Proximity from 75-100 yards, 16th in Putting, and 18th in Tee-to-Green. Webb has great scoring upside and is capable of going nuclear with his putting, so I love his chances of winning this week.

Garrick Higgo 50-1

Can Garrick Higgo really win two times in his first five PGA Tour starts? Why not. He won two events in a three-week span on the European Tour earlier this year and his victories were absolute birdie-fests. Higgo is no stranger to making birdies, and he is no stranger to winning. Higgo does not have too much ShotLink data available due to his limited PGA Tour experience but there’s enough to show that he is good and here to stay.

Higgo is long Off-the-Tee where he drives the ball 315 yards on average. This course will allow him to frequently use his length and set-up short wedge shots into the greens. Higgo is a great putter which is definitely something I am looking for this week. This event will get to -20 or lower so Higgo’s experience at these types of events is very attractive and he is a proven winner.

Brendon Todd 66-1

Brendon Todd is a streaky player who is capable of going really low. In recent weeks, he has hung around leaderboards but has not contended. Last season, Todd won two events with scores of -20 and -24, so he is capable of winning a birdie-fest. Todd has made ten of his last 12 cuts and has struggled on weekends. However, I believe he has a high ceiling and the volatility to win. At a course like this, where there is not much trouble Off-the-Tee, Todd’s gameplan should translate well. Hit greens, make putts. It’s a simple gameplan but one that works. This is a relatively flat course, so reading the greens should not be overly difficult and I expect to see high caliber putters making long putts this week. Todd has consistently been a Top 20 Putter each season and he is currently ranked 4th. Todd has gained strokes on Approach in nine of his last fourteen rounds. I love Todd’s upside and this is his style of event.

Lucas Glover 100-1

Lucas Glover is playing some of his best golf in recent years. He is a streaky player and pretty volatile. He can finish in the Top 10 or miss the cut by five strokes. But over his last 24 rounds he is gaining strokes in every major stat category. His recent finishing positions have not reflected how well he has actually been playing.

Over his last 24 rounds, in this field Glover ranks: first in Proximity from 75-100 yards, eleventh in Strokes Gained on Par 4s, eleventh in Birdies or Better Gained, fourteenth in Tee-to-Green, sixteenth Off-the-Tee, seventeenth in Greens-in-Regulations Gained. Glover has been striking the ball very well, and his putter has been cooperating. He has gained 4+ strokes Putting in a single round three times this season, which is something he has only done two other times in his career. If Glover can continue hitting the ball well and find a hot putter like he has in recent months than he can certainly win this week.

Harry Higgs 300-1

Harry Higgs is a fan favorite but he hasn’t played great this season. The appeal to Higgs is that he has random spike weeks and his best finish this season was at the Safeway Open. The Safeway Open was the only course where I could find cross-over leaderboards with the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This is an easier course so I think every player is capable of competing this week, and Higgs is a decent putter who shouldn’t find much trouble Off-the-Tee. Higgs has been good on short Par 4s, ranking 18th in Par 4 Efficiency from 400-450 yards. At 300-1, I think he’s worth a sprinkle and will have great odds in the Top 40 market.

DUBAI DUTY FREE IRISH OPEN 2021 – BETTING PREVIEW by @GolfTipster5

European Tour, Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Preview

By Ryan Hamilton – @Golftipster5

This week see’s Europe’s Best take on Mount Juliet Golf course for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.  All the local hero’s come back home to compete for the prestigious prize; Rory Mcilroy, Shane lowry & Padraig Harrington all looking to win their National Open. With extra Race to Dubai points on offer this week & a purse worth double last weeks at €3 Million it’s no surprise to see a strong field this week. Not only this but with The Open just 2 weeks away players are looking to hit form at just the right time for the final Major of the year. Limited fans will be allowed in each day this week so Shane Lowry will finally get to play in front of his Irish Fans as Open Champion before defending at Royal St Georges.

Course

Mount Juliet Golf Course gets back on the European tour after a long time away. The Irish Open takes place at different course each year. The WGC American Express Championship was the last event to be held at this venue back in 2002 & 2004 where Tiger Woods & the Big Easy Ernie Els were victorious. The course is celebrating its 30th Year Anniversary this year which by hosting the Irish Open will be a great way to celebrate it.  The Jack Nicklaus Designed Course is a Par 72 made up for 4 Par 3s,10 pars 4s & 4 par 5s. 7250 yards will make up the scorecard this week. Winning scores in 2002 & 2004 were -24, -18 & the Last 5 Irish Open winners average score is -15, with this is mind I would expect this week’s winning score to be around 18 under par this week.  Current weather forecast is predicted to be calm & sunny conditions so we look set to miss the usual High Winds or persistent Rain but that could all change by Thursday.

Previous winners

2020 – John Catlin Score -10

2019 – Jon Rahm Score -16

2018 – Russell Knox Score -14

2017 – Jon Rahm Score -24

2016 – Rory McIlroy Score -12

@Golftipster5 Selections:

Christiaan Bezuidenhout 20-1 Paddy Power 8 Places

Christiaan makes his 1st appearance in Europe for nearly a year this week. He has mainly been stateside this season with his European tour events all being in the Middle East. He will have learned a lot about himself this season with all his PGA tour experience & will bring all that with him to take on the Irish Open. For the last 2 years the South African has ranked as one of the best putters on tour, this combined with his greens in regulation stats of 69% should put him in a great position to shoot some low rounds this week. Current form reads 31-37-30-33-40. Three of these finishes were in Major’s so he has proved that can compete with the strongest of fields.

Thomas Detry 33-1 Boyle Sports 10 places

Thomas has been fine tuning his game at his base course St. Enodoc down in Cornwall ready for the Irish Open test.  He comes into this event still searching for his 1st European Tour victory & there is no reason why it can’t be this week. After a Missed cut at the US Open last time out he can take the positives from the 2nd place finish at the Porsche Open the previous week. All his stats rank around the average for the tour in every field so a week off to fine tune his game should have done him the world of good to push on & challenge for the win this week. Current form reads MC-2-59-MC-43

Andrew Johnston 66-1 Paddy Power 8 Places

Beef has had a bit of a resurgence of form in recent weeks which hopefully can lead to his 2016 form. He managed 2 bogey free rounds this week & only a total of 6 total bogeys all week. A 69.14 stroke average has Beef ranked 5th on tour for the year. He ranks better than the tour average in all the key stats; 68% greens in regulation,55% Driving accuracy which very surprising is 6% better than the tour average & averaging 28.28 putts per round. All will be key this week to get himself back in the winner’s circle.  Current form reads 14-MC-17-4-42

Takumi Kanaya 66-1 Boyle Sports 10 Places

The Japanese wonderkid comes to the Irish Open fresh from a T17 finish at the BMW International Open where he only had 5 bogeys all week which were the only dropped shots in 72 holes. He makes just his 3rd appearance on European soil this week & looks to bring his form from Asia with him. The world No 83 is one of the highest ranked players in the field this week so at 80-1 & with his bogey avoidance last week he was a very easy click this week.  On the Japanese tour he ranks higher than average on nearly every stat, Greens in Regulation at 68.06 & driving accuracy of 75%. These will go a long way to high scoring this week as wedges from the fairways are far more accurate than from the rough. Current form Reads 17-MC-MC-7-15

John Catlin 80-1 Paddy Power 8 places

The American is fast becoming one of my favourite golfers. He has won twice in recent months when I’ve been on him & this week at 80-1, I simply can’t not take him. He won in Austria at 80-1 just 6 starts ago. His form has dipped a little since then with 3 missed cuts a 5th & 52nd place finish. However, at last year’s Irish Open he proved is a fan of this test of golf by winning. The defending champ ranks of one of the best approach players on the tour with this Strokes gained approach to the green he is 18th & tee to green he is 14th. A 60.19% driving accuracy also ranks him 12th on tour which combined with his Greens in regulation figure of 67.59% can lead him to victory if the putter behaves itself. Current Form reads MC-MC-MC-5-52

Other Notables

Rory McIlroy – The 4-1 home fav is simply too short to take this week. I’ve no doubt he will be up & around the top come Sunday afternoon but there is just no value at 4-1. It’s like prime Tiger Woods odds where he turned up & won regardless of the field.

Good Luck with all Bets

SEASON 2 TABLE #AMMENDMENTS

Hello all.

It was bought to my attention that The Womens PGA Scores were not correct. A thorough investigation from an independent body has founded that indeed they had not all pulled through. This means there has been some changes to the Final table, however the T3 is still the same. This has all been amended and this post confirms the league table.

If you would like to see a full breakdown week by week, please message me and I can send the file.

Cheers

Matt

LPGA PGA CHAMPIONSHIP – TIPS by @golftipster5

LPGA PGA Championship Preview

By Ryan Hamilton – @Golftipster5

Its Major week on the LPGA this week. The Atlanta Athletic Highlands Course in Johns Creek, Georgia will host the 67th Edition of the PGA Championship. The world’s best 156 Golfers will bid to win the $675,000 1st prize as well as their place in history as the PGA Champion. Can anybody stop the Asian dominance in Majors? 13 of the last 16 Major winners are from Asia, 7 of them from South Korea. Quick PGA Winners Stat – 4 of the last 5 winners have all won their maiden Major at the PGA so could this week see another 1st time Major winner?

Course

The Highlands course was designed by Robert Trent Jones & Joe Lee; however, Rees Jones was brought in in 2006 to redesign the course. The course measure 7,613 yards at its maximum but will play a little bit shorter this week at 6,831. The par 72 is made up of 4 par 3s,10 par 4s & 4 par 5s. The course hasn’t held an LPGA event since 1990 so there won’t be any course form this week. Keegan Bradley won his only Major here in 2011 & that was the last time this course held a major event. Keegan won with a score of -8 so I’d expect the course to be set up very similar to back in 2011 where shooting -2 for a round should be considered a very good round. The weather could play a part on Saturday & Sunday with Thunderstorms predicted similar to what we get for the Master’s so we could have a few lightning/storm Delays.

@Golftipster5 Selections:

Nelly Korda – 14-1 SkyBet 6 Places

Nelly comes into this event off the back of her 2nd victory of the calendar year the only person to have multiple victories this year.  The 14-1 odds back up the fact that she is currently even if not officially the best female golfer on the planet. Her scoring average this year is 69.41 over 34 rounds which ranks 2nd this year. The putting stats are where she can make up shots on the field this week, averaging 29 putts per round which is 16th on tour. As per most of the ladies on tour her driving accuracy & greens in regulation are in the 70s so when she gets the ball in play, she can use putting to her advantage this week. Nelly’s last 5 results are 1-MC-25-10-2

Shanshan Feng 28-1 Unitbet 6 Places

After taking over a year out of the game due to covid Shanshan returned at the ANA where it was like she hadn’t even stopped played competitively. In her 1st 2 majors this year she has finished 3rd & 4th so there is nothing to stop her believing she can win this week. Her solo Major win was the PGA back in 2012 but form suggests she’s peaking for this week. Recent finishes of 29-4-4MP-27-43 show she is closing on adding to her 10LPGA titles & Major No2. She isn’t the longest of hitters but if you hit 77% of fairways like she does it really doesn’t matter if you’re not a modern day bomber, this added 72% of greens in regulation should put her in a promising position come Sunday afternoon.

Hannah Green 40-1 Unibet 6 Places

The world No. 14 is due a win any time soon. Her form in recent weeks has been incredible it’s just missing that win. She won the PGA back in 2019 for her maiden Major & this week she can win it again. She was defending champion last year & still managed a top 25 finish so with the defending champion pressure gone she can play without the additional media duties. Her last 6 Strokeplay results are 45-3-62-7-2-3. There is no way she should be 40-1 this week. She is 7th this season in scoring average & ranks 1st in Putts per green in regulation. Her fairway hit percentage is relatively low at 63.6% but that is countered by her greens in regulation at 72.53% which ranks 42nd on tour.

Xiyu Lin 66-1 Betfair 6 Places

Lin is another golfer I feel this week is overpriced considering the form she is in. Her last 6 results are 15-26-7-MC-13-3. She is still waiting for her 1st LPGA victory which might be why the odds don’t give her the respect she deserves. Lin is still an 8-time winner on other tours such as Ladies European tour & the China LPGA which at only 25 years old is already a great career. Her best finish in a Major was last time out at the US Open where she finished 7th. She is another one of my picks this week which has an excellent scoring average this season, 70.37 which ranks her 18th on tour. All the other stats are solid & the main ones such as putting, Greens in Regulation & driving accuracy are all ranked 40th or better this year. Can she win her 1st LPGA title this week? Yuka Saso did it a few weeks ago in the US Open so there is no reason why she can’t do the same.

Matilda Castren – 90-1 Unibet 6 Places

After her breakthrough win at the Medihead Championship Matilda will be full of confidence heading into her 2nd PGA championship. She finished 23rd in her debut major last year & looks to improve on that in her 1st official year on tour. She ranks 2nd on the tour in Greens in Regulation with 77.8% & 44th in driving accuracy with 76.07% which should be vital to producing a winnable score if the putter can behave. The world no 71 last 5 results are 1-30-63-MC-12 which considering she has only had 15 starts is excellent form.

Other notables

Leona Maguire 60-1 – another Top 5 last week to add to her growing top 10s on the LPGA, she will pick up her 1st win sooner rather than later

Angel Yin – 70-1 – Yin already has 16 top 10 finishes in her career, 3 of them in the last 4 weeks but she is also still waiting for her 1st LPGA title.

Good Luck with all Bets

Travelers Championship Betting Preview

The PGA Tour makes a rare appearance in the New England area this week with the Travelers Championship. TPC River Highlands plays host to this event every year and is one of the shortest courses on Tour. Pete Dye designed the course in 1982, with Bobby Weed re-designing the course in 1989. As with all Pete Dye courses, precision and finesse will be required in order to execute the proper shots. The narrow, tree-lined fairways allow short hitters to contend, while also giving golfers the option of attempting to overpower the course.

TPC River Highlands is a Par 70 that measures just over 6,800 yards. As a Par 70, there are only two Par 5s. The majority of the twelves Par 4s will play between 400 and 450 yards. Birdie-making will be imperative this week with the last three winners scoring -17 or better. The greens are 5,000 square feet which are pretty small, so strong Approach play will be crucial. This is a full-field event which means there are 156 golfers and the Top 65 and ties will make the cut. Low rounds are possible at this course, evidenced by Mac Hughes’s opening round of 60 last year, and Jim Furyk’s PGA Tour record-low round of 58 in 2016. The main defense for the course is the thick rough, and narrow fairways. Accurate players have had success here because they are able to manage the course and play efficiently. Pete Dye courses tend to require golfers to truly understand the course they are playing. There are right places to miss, and shot-making will be necessary.

My handicapping process for this week began by reviewing the scorecards of the last five winners of this event to try and find what stats will be important this week. The last five winners of this event are Dustin Johnson, Chez Reavie, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, and Russell Knox. Bubba Watson has won this event three times, so it’s worth noting that some degree of course history exists. The five former winners have shown that strong irons and a hot putter are the keys to a winning week. All five of these players finished inside the Top 10 in Tee-to-Green for the week they won. Par 4 Scoring is the most important scoring stat to look at this week. The five winners faced a total of 240 Par 4s and scored on 76 of them, a 31.76% scoring rate. They also combined to score on 50% of the limited Par 5s they faced. The general blueprint for this week is finding someone who is a birdie-maker and has the potential to get red hot with their putter. Greens-in-regulation is another key stat to look at this week because with low scores anticipated golfers will need to have a plethora of birdie chances in order to keep pace with the field.

All styles of golf are capable of contending this week. I will be targeting golfers who hit fairways and greens, and have a very high scoring upside. There are some courses that have shown to be correlated to TPC River Highlands. Innisbrook (Valspar) has seen strong cross-over leaderboards, Harbour Town Golf Links (RBC Heritage) is another short course where precision is key, and Pebble Beach is a short course where birdies are available to the field and the Approach/Putting combination is the path to success.

Key Stats: Tee-to-Green, Ball-Striking, Putting, Approach, and GIRs Gained

Scoring Upside: Birdies-or-Better Gained, Par 4s 400-450 yards, Par 4 BoB % / Scoring Average, and Bogey Avoidance

Travelers Championship Tips

Scottie Scheffler 28-1

Scottie Scheffler is going to win soon. He is an extremely talented player who has contended multiple times but has yet to close the door on his maiden PGA Tour victory. His current form is at a peak, with three Top 10 Finishes in his last four starts. In 23 total events this season, Scheffler has produced seven Top 10 finishes. He has incredibly high upside and is a natural scorer. The last time Scheffler played in the New England area, he rattled off a round of 59 at TPC Boston. In recent events where he has contended, Scheffler has seemingly melted down late on Sunday. At a course like this, I like Scheffler’s ability to go really low and set the pace while avoiding the pressure.

Looking at all rounds for the 2021 season, in this field Scheffler ranks: third in Birdies or Better Gained, tenth Tee-to-Green, eleventh in strokes gained on Par 4s from 400-450 yards, and 21st in Ball-Striking. Scheffler’s combination of both length and accuracy is intriguing on a short course like this where he is likely going to be playing a shorter iron into the green but won’t always be playing out of the rough. Scheffler has been particularly good on Par 4s where he is ranked eighth among all PGA Tour players in scoring average. Scheffler’s hot recent form and scoring upside will propel him to his first victory.

Joaquin Niemann 44-1

Joaquin Niemann is a great ball-striker and is a player who is best suited for low-scoring events. Niemann’s length this week will allow him to overpower the golf course this week and give himself plenty of scoring chances. Niemann’s length leads to missed fairways, but even with his poor accuracy he still manages to get himself onto the green-in-regulation. His biggest weakness is his inability to chip and play well around-the-green. This week I do not anticipate scrambling to be a key indicator of success which means this is a good course setup for Niemann.

Looking at all rounds for the 2021 season, in this field Niemann ranks: fifth in Ball-Striking, seventh in Tee-to-Green, sixth in Birdies-or-Better Gained, twelfth in GIRs Gained, fourteenth in Putting, and 21st in Approach. Niemann has a lot of good stuff going for him this week. This year he is also sixth in Scoring Average, and fifteenth in Total Strokes Gained. His ability to play consistently well will translate into a win and this is a great week for that to happen.

Harris English 50-1

Harris English has been playing really well in recent weeks. He spent most of the week in contention at Palmetto before finishing T14 and darted up the leaderboard on Sunday at the U.S. Open to finish in 3rd place. English is a very balanced overall player who does nothing exceptionally well, but he doesn’t do anything poorly. In 20 events this season, English has six Top 10 Finishes including a win. His lone win this season was at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua where he won in a birdie-fest at 25 strokes under par. Over his last 26 rounds, English is gaining strokes in every category and has gained 1.12 Total Strokes per round. English has shown to be a streaky player and while he is hot and in form, I will ride with him this week in hopes of another birdie frenzy like we saw back in January.

Sam Burns 70-1

I mentioned Valspar as a good comp for TPC River Highlands so it makes sense that this year’s winner of that event stuck out to me this week. Burns followed up that victory with a runner-up finish at the Byron Nelson. In his most recent events, Burns has struggled. However, this week the PGA Tour returns to an easier course setup which suits Burns high scoring upside much better than the PGA Championship and U.S. Open did. Burns is an extremely volatile golfer and has played in the final pairing multiple times this year.

This season, Burns ranks 20th in Approach and 22nd in Putting. Over his last 32 rounds, Burns is gaining .74 strokes per round in Approach, and .28 strokes per round in Putting. This is the perfect combination for this course. Birdie-making is the name of the game this week and Burns in the number one player in Birdie Average and the number one player in Par 4 Birdie or Better Percentage. Burns has the raw scoring upside to contend in yet another event this season and these are great odds for a player of this caliber.

Emiliano Grillo 95-1

Emiliano Grillo has made his way onto another one of my betting cards. He is a great ball-striker who plays especially well on shorter courses. Grillo’s game plan is to stay in the fairways and hit greens. Grillo is not a good putter but with small greens this week, he should have plenty of short looks at birdies. This season, Grillo is the number one player in Proximity to the Hole, which is a great way to neutralize a poor putter. Grillo is also riding strong current form with four Top 15 Finishes in his last seven events.

Over his last 24 rounds, in this field Grillo ranks: first in Approach, first in strokes gained Par 4s 400-450 yards, third in GIRs Gained, sixth in Ball-Striking, and eighth in Birdies-or-Better Gained. Grillo’s iron play has been scorching hot and he excels on Par 4s. With twelve total Par 4s this week, Grillo’s mastery of these holes should allow him to contend.

TIPS – BMW European International – European TOUR

European Tour, BMW International Open Preview

By Ryan Hamilton – @Golftipster5

After last week’s US Open Test, the Tour players will look forward to a more forgiving course with the BMW International Open held at Golfclub München Eichenried. I was going to avoid players that played the US Open because of how long it was going to take to fly over to Munich from San Diego however BMW put on a flight for all the players playing this week to come over. Eduardo Molinari posted on his socials that it has saved him 24hours by flying at 2:45am European time & landing 11 hours later all from the comfort of a bed. They will still have some jetlag to recover from, but they should all be climatised by Thursday. This week might still favour the non-US Open players as they will have more time to practice & get their game in shape ahead of the predicted high scoring if previous years are anything to go by

Course

Golfclub München Eichenried takes its turn to host the BMW International Open. The competition alternates each year between this week’s hosts & St. Eurach Lad-Und-Golfclub. It 7,283yards make up the par 72 course consisting of 4 par 3s,10 pars 4s & 4 par 5s. Winning scores in the previous 5 events at this course haven’t been lower than -15 so winning scores expected to reach double figures again. Thundery showers are predicted to last Thursday & Friday so players might have to anticipate some rain delays which could mean hanging around to finish 2nd rounds on Saturday & even a late Sunday finish.

Previous winners at Golfclub München Eichenried

2019 – Andrea Pavan Score -15

2017 – Andres Romero Score -17

2015 – Pablo Larrazabal Score -17

2013 – Ernie Els Score -18

2011 – Pablo Larrazabal Score -16

@Golftipster5 Selections:

Antoine Rozner 28-1 SkyBet 7 Places

Rozner has spent the last few weeks stateside playing in the Byron Nelson, PGA & Memorial making use of his invites. He’s back in Europe this week for the 1st time since a MC in Tenerife looking to add to his 2 European Tour titles. His average scores this year is 69.67 ranked 17th on Tour which he will need this week as a winning score looks likely to be in the high to mid-teens. Another stat I like this week is his greens in regulation which he currently sits 14th with 70.96%. At 28-1 I feel like he has been overpriced this week, but the field does include Major winners & World no 12 &14 Louis Oosthuizen & Victor Hovland if he recovers from his eye injury. I was expecting low 20s so happy to take him on at 28-1. Current form reads 18-MC-MC-MC-15.

Eduardo Molinari 50-1 Skybet 7 Places

I wasn’t going to include any players that played the US Open this week but having seen Eduardo is already in Munich I’m happy to play him this week at 50-1. He didn’t have the best of starts to the year with a few missed cuts but looks to of found something in his game over the last few weeks since his T28 in Tenerife he has contended twice in his last 4 events & had a very successful US Open when he was expected to miss the cut by many. He like Antoine is another player who hits plenty of greens. His 69.21% of greens in reg has him ranked 36th on Tour. Molinari will attempt to go one better than 2019 where he finished 3rd 2 shots off the playoff.  Current form reads 35-2-MC-8-45

Stephen Jaeger 70-1 Unitbet 6 Places

Stephen is playing on a sponsor invite this week & will look to gain enough race to Dubai points to get himself some more invites as he looks to possibly earn his European tour card. The Munich born German has had a stella year on the Korn Ferry Tour. Since the Covid restart he has had 2 wins, 3 2Nd places & 5 top 10s which has moved him from 526th in the world ranking to a record high 119th. There are only a handful of players playing this week that are ranked above him, with his 2 wins he sits just 1 win away from an automatically Card for the PGA tour for next season but this week he looks to give his game a go against the best Europe has to offer on home turf. He is one of the best putters on the Korn Ferry tour ranking 4th in Putting average per green in regulation & 7th in average putts per round. Current form reads 38-2-53-2-5

Outsider

Marcel Schneider 200-1 SkyBet 7 Places

Marcel has had an up & down year so far this year. The world no 366 has had 2 top 10s with a few missed cuts from 9 events this year. The German stats wise is on the average mark in every category but that is expected from the year he has had. He should be able to draw on the positives from his last event the Porsche Open where he finished 7th shooting -3 overall. At 200-1 I’m happy to take this on especially with the event being home soil again. Current form reads 7-MC-MC-MC-8

Other notables

Louis Oosthuizen 7-1 how much will the US Open & a 10-hour flight to Germany of taken out of him. At 7-1 this was simply too low for me to even try to take.

Pablo Larrazabal 55-1 – Clearly loves this track he has won twice her before

Takumi Kanaya 66-1– like Hoshino last week he has lit up the Japanese Tour this year & looks to take advantage of a sponsor invite this week

Good Luck with all Bets
